iBlog. Do you?

Consider recruiting revolutionized.

Traditional white-shirt-and-tie networking events are a thing of the past. Companies are getting a sneak peek into the real you before you ever step foot in their office. By building a powerful, online reputation, you will brand yourself not only for the future, but also for the now.

LinkedIn and out. Are you connected? Build a profile on professional social media websites, and create an online network of references and resources.  Get your friends involved. Use the connections you already have to expand your associations.

Blog it up. Creating a professional blog about your experiences shows potential employers your initiative and skill sets.  Why not display your strengths? Write about what you are doing, who you are meeting, and what you are learning. If you have got it, flaunt it.

Know your stuff. Knowledge is power. So get it. Internet marketing is turning the tables in the business world, and companies are in dire need of people with a web-based skill set. Learn everything you can. Take classes. Read. Experiment. Use Google. Talk to people. Companies need innovators. The more you know the more of an asset you will become.

Now, consider yourself branded.

Gain a competitive edge in Web marketing

Have you ever wished you knew something about Web site marketing to give you that competitive edge?

We sure have! To help give you that edge, BYUMA is holding Web marketing workshops with Simpleslice, a local Web development company.

Last week the co-founders of Simpleslice taught us about the marketer’s role in Web design and how to use Google AdWords, a way to advertise your business with Google.

The top three myths of Google AdWords are:

  1. Ads that appear first cost the most.
  2. Ads that appear near the bottom never get clicked on.
  3. Ads can only be targeted by keywords.

HINT: If you make your Web site relevant to what your ad is advertising, you can boost your ratings in Google!

The top three ways to succeed with Google AdWords are:

  1. Plan more than just the content and keywords of your ads.
  2. Create effective landing pages for each of your ads.
  3. Focus on conversions, not clicks.

Click here to create a campaign with Google AdWords.

Weren’t able to come to the first Simpleslice workshop? Click here to read the review story in The Daily Universe.

Join us on Wednesday, November 18 at 6 p.m. in W240 TNRB to learn about search engine optimization at our second Simpleslice workshop. Hope to see you there!

Who do you think you are?

By PJ Andersen

A lot of people tell me they want to be a brand manager. Getting to that level usually takes tons of work experience, an MBA, and a lot of awesomeness. But guess what? You don’t have to wait that long.

Start now and brand yourself!

Everybody has a brand. Some have a well-developed, recognizable masterpiece and some have a no-name, private label flop. You are labeled based on who you are and how you present yourself.

The following three elements are effective ways to develop your personal brand:

Brand Trust: the measure of belief that recruiters have in your ability to live up to your resume. How much of those experience and skills sections really define who you are?

Brand Affect: the potential you have to affect or impact your future work environment. Can recruiters see what you can become?

Brand Equity: a sum of the skills, experience, and achievements you have personally developed to set yourself apart from everyone else. What do you have that nobody else even comes close to?

This year, the BYU Marketing Association is going to do everything it can to help you develop and prepare for success in the future. From case competitions to online marketing workshops, you will walk away from your BYUMA experience completely branded for the future.
